Attempting to explain the Silmarillion (which I have not read in a decade)

• Em: basically Back In The Day before morgoth showed up on middle earth the elves basically divided in two?
• Em: a bunch of them went off west to chill with the valar
• Em: and the rest were like, we're cool, we're gonna just hang with these trees
• Em: maybe make some ents, whatever
• Kassie: ooo *that's* where ents come from
• Kassie: these are our giant trees! we call them giants!
• Em: you just picture the elves talking and talking at the poor fucking trees
• Em: until they start to talk back out of sheer self-defense
• Em: ...I do, anyhow.
• Kassie: (although actually, nobody knows quite what "ents" means in Anglo-Saxon so it's kind of appropriately mysterious)
• Kassie: ahahaha no that seems
• Kassie: appropriate
• Kassie: man i remember the silvan elves being kinda dicks in the Hobbit as well
• Em: I need to reread the hobbit
• Em: the silvan elves are totally dicks there
• Em: legolas' dad: what an asshole.
